"I never paint dreams or nightmares. I paint my own reality."

Frida Kahlo. Born in 1907 in Coyoacan, Mexico. Died in 1954. This is my favorite picture of her. I find myself so drawn to who she was because I feel like my life is somewhat similar to hers. She used pain as an expression of emotion in all of her paintings. She contracted Polio and Spina Bifida as a young girl. In 1925 she was riding on a bus when a trolley collided. She suffered multiple fractures and suffered a lot of pain throughout her life because of it.

My name is Sara Karolina Heinio. I was born in 1983 in Sweden. I am a painter/illustrator living in Philadelphia, PA. I was born with a rare genetic brittle bone disorder called Osteogenesis Imperfecta. I have a milder form, Type 1a. I have had 20 bone fractures and 4 separate surgeries as a result. I also have Scoliosis in which I have a titanium rod with hooks and rods in my spine. I also have Osteoporosis. I am very happy and optimistic, I never feel sorry for myself and I use pain and happiness in my paintings. It is a good venting form for me. I see another side of life that most people take for granted, or just haven't seen. I enjoy every day I get to live, and I think life is beautiful.

I hope anyone reading my blog is enjoying everything they are getting out of life. Do all the things you have always wanted to experience. Do not regret anything, it is a waste of time. Always be happy!
